The incident happened in Mount Kisco on Saturday, April 6, when at least four people in a white mid-sized four-door vehicle drove it all over the fields at Leonard Park, creating deep ruts in big circles, the village's Parks and Recreation Department announced on Tuesday, April 9.
The Westchester County Police Department is now working to find these suspects, according to Recreation Superintendent Kyle Thornton. In the meantime though, Thornton is asking those involved to come forward.
"We of course at the Recreation Department and DPW do not find this funny nor amusing in any way as this is many hours of work to fix," Thornton said, adding, "Ideally, we would like them to come forward sooner to allow the police to focus on other matters."
The Recreation Department has video of the incident that shows the suspects, Thornton said, adding that they parked twice to look at the mud on the sides of their vehicle.
"As a community, we should all be outraged this happened. We love our park and have been working on making it more beautiful for everyone who enjoys it," Thornton said, adding that the situation has forced the department to pause other projects to dedicate resources to fixing the fields.
"Please spread the word and hopefully someone with a conscience comes forward so we can work on a fair resolution," Thornton said.
